These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your use of the Rouge Gorge iOS app ("the App") and the rougegorge.app website ("the Website"), together "the Service". The Service is provided by Tudual Lucas Huon, sole proprietor, 21 Dom Morice, 35000 Rennes, France, SIREN 999 501 703 ("we", "us", "our").
By downloading, installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Rouge Gorge is a vocabulary-learning app for people studying English. It lets you save words, review them with spaced-repetition exercises, look up definitions generated by an AI language model (Claude by Anthropic), and practise pronunciation scored by Microsoft Azure's speech recognition. After the free onboarding flow, full access to the Service requires an auto-renewable subscription purchased through the App Store. See §9 below for pricing and renewal terms.
The App does not require an account. Your profile, vocabulary library and learning history are stored on your device only. If you uninstall the App, this data is permanently deleted; we cannot recover it for you.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Rouge Gorge. Onboarding includes a single 13+ self-confirmation toggle; no date of birth is collected or stored.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on any Apple device you own or control, for your own non-commercial language-learning use. You may not:
Definitions, examples, translations, pronunciation feedback and other explanatory content shown in the App are generated by AI models (Claude by Anthropic, and Microsoft Azure AI Speech for pronunciation scoring). AI can be inaccurate, biased or culturally off-base. Rouge Gorge surfaces explicit AI disclosures during onboarding and on the search screen, and provides a "Report" button on every AI output so you can flag errors. You are responsible for your own judgement when relying on AI content, particularly for academic, professional or certification purposes. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or suitability of any AI output.
You may save words and personal notes in your on-device library. You are solely responsible for anything you type or share. Do not use the App to generate, store or look up content that is illegal, offensive, harmful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or that infringes on anyone else's rights. We reserve the right to refuse service or block the API relay for accounts that abuse it (for example, mass scraping or prompt-injection attempts).
All intellectual property rights in the App, the Website and the Rouge Gorge brand (name, logo, designs, original content) belong to us. You do not acquire any ownership right by using the Service. AI-generated outputs shown to you in the App may be used freely for your personal language-learning needs but may not be redistributed commercially as a substitute for the App or as training data.
The App uses the following third-party providers, each with their own terms:
rougegorge.app)We are not responsible for the performance or availability of these providers. Downtime or errors on their side may affect AI-backed features (definition lookup, pronunciation). Offline features (reviewing saved words, spaced-repetition exercises) continue to work regardless.
Full access to Rouge Gorge requires an auto-renewable subscription, purchased and billed through the App Store. Two plans are offered:
Prices shown are in US dollars. Apple automatically converts them to your local currency at the time of purchase based on the App Store price tier; you may see a slightly different amount depending on your region and local taxes.
Each subscription begins with a 3-day free trial, available once per Apple ID. During the trial you have full access to the Service and may cancel at any time without being charged. If you do not cancel, the subscription begins billing automatically at the end of the trial period.
Auto-renewal: the subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the same price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple charges your Apple ID account for the renewal within 24 hours before the next period begins. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or from the App Store on a Mac. Uninstalling the App does not cancel the subscription.
Restore purchases: if you reinstall the App or sign in on a new device with the same Apple ID, you can restore an existing subscription via the "Restore Purchases" option in the paywall and in the in-app Settings screen.
Refund requests for a subscription are handled by Apple under their standard refund policy. To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of AI output, and uninterrupted availability. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, loss of data, or lost opportunities. Our total liability under or in connection with these Terms shall not exceed the total amount you actually paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes our liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded under French consumer law.
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the App. We may suspend or terminate the Service, in whole or in part, for any reason including to comply with the law or to address abuse; we will give reasonable notice where practicable.
We may update these Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version. For material changes we will display a notice inside the App on next launch. Continuing to use the Service after a material change means you accept the new Terms.
In accordance with French consumer law, if you are a consumer and a dispute with us cannot be resolved amicably after a written complaint to contact@rougegorge.app, you may refer the matter free of charge to the consumer mediator:

These Terms are governed by French law. Any dispute shall be brought before the courts of Paris, France, subject to the mandatory jurisdictional rules of French consumer law in force at the time.
